Workshop: Let Students Lead the Talk
Balanced, student-led conversations build confidence and help young learners use language in real, meaningful ways.
Why This Workshop Matters
In many classrooms, students know the words — but they struggle to put them together in conversation. That’s where student-led speaking practice makes all the difference. When students are given the space to lead discussions, ask questions, and share ideas with their peers, they become more confident, fluent, and engaged.
This workshop is designed to help you shift the focus from teacher-led talk to a more dynamic, student-driven classroom environment. We’ll explore what student-led speaking actually looks like, how to support it, and how to get even your shy students to take part.
What to Expect
You’ll leave this session with a practical toolkit of strategies and activities that you can start using right away. Whether you teach online or in-person, you’ll learn how to:
- Encourage students to take the lead in pair and group discussions
- Use realia and visual prompts to inspire natural conversations
- Keep peer talk focused and balanced
- Support shy or quiet students without taking over the conversation
- Integrate speaking goals into your existing lesson flow
The workshop will include real examples from the classroom, demonstrations of speaking activities, and time for questions and discussion.

This training is perfect for teachers of young learners aged 8 to 12, especially those working with beginner to lower-intermediate students.
